Biography
Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua was a Pride FC superstar that now fights in the UFC.
The Brazilian is known for his aggressive Muay Thai attack, courtesy of the famous Chute Boxe team that bred many others champions including Wanderlei Silva.
He won the Pride middleweight (205lbs) GP in 2005 by beating Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Alistair Overeem to get to the final, then defeating Ricardo Arona to take the accolade.
Although stomps and soccer kicks were a staple of his diet and part of his allure in Pride, he had still managed to do well in the UFC despite an unfavourable start.
He lost to Forrest Griffin in his UFC debut but went on to beat Mark Coleman and Chuck Liddell, earning the right to fight for the title against Lyoto Machida.
