Andrew Fisher’s last outing ended in a draw against highly regarded and well-travelled Welshman Daniel ‘Denzil’ Thomas. That solid performance against one of the UK’s most revered veterans showed that Fisher belonged amongst the best fighters on the domestic circuit.

However, for Fisher it seemed lightweight wasn’t the right option for him despite his success there as he nows explores a drop to featherweight:

“[The drop] just seemed like the right thing I do. I'm not really a big lightweight and I have training partners who are heavier than me walking about and they make feather quite comfortably so I thought I'd try it.”

It’s the first time of asking this weekend as he prepares for a Made 4 The Cage 6 bout against Muay Thai specialist Danny Welsh. Welsh, although now with a journeyman status due to his willingness to fight anyone at any weight, had a decorated career in the striking arts and is still capable of throwing some lethal shots.

Fisher is aware of this and won’t be taking his man lightly, despite coming into the fight as a heavy favourite. As a competitive boxer himself, Fisher believes he has the tools in all ranges to get the job done.

“Danny is an extremely dangerous opponent; he's got some really nice kicks,” Fisher revealed, analysing his opponent’s arsenal. “I generally prefer to stand with my opponents so I've got no problem with his Thai boxing being so good.”

Working with some of the best professional fighters in the North East, Fisher can count the likes of current and former UFC stars like Phil De Fries, Andy Ogle and Curt Warburton amongst his sparring partners, and he mixes up his training in all ranges to be prepared for all eventualities.

With two wins and a draw in his last three outings, he’s obviously doing something right.

“Preparations have gone well, pretty much the same as every other one. I work really hard on my boxing, wrestling and jiu jitsu, and loads of my training partners have got fights coming up so it's great that everyone is in the gym to help prepare.”

With the small matter of making the weight for the first time to tussle with over the next few days, Fisher sees that as the last struggle before he gets to express himself in combat.

“I'm busy trying to make weight now which is the horrible part of the fight camp. I've not found the weight cut too horrible yet, but the last few kilos will be vile I'm guessing,” joked the Team Fish Tank head man.

As he knuckles down to grind out the last few pounds, how is he envisaging winning the fight in his head?

“I'm hoping to win within the rounds. I'm predicting a tough back and forth fight but me to have my hand raised at the end. The whole card is great and it's quite an honour to fight on the same show as Jeff Monson, he's fought everyone!”

This bout forms just one part of a stacked Made 4 The Cage card at Rainton Meadows Arena. Stay tuned to YourMMA.tv for more interviews and coverage, both before and after this weekend’s showdown.
