Another Clan Wars show is in the bag an what an awesome show it was, not only because of the excellent fights but also because this was a special event that saw Clan Wars promoter Paul McLaughlin pledging 1000 euros to a little girl with Cerebral Palsy. Myia Corcoran, who is from Dublin, needs help to raise money for an operation to help her walk again.
Clan Wars invited Myia and her family to the Clan Wars 11 show as guests of honour and also to receive the donation cheque. What can I say about that? Myia and her father where invited into the Clan Wars cage and the place erupted with cheers and claps; you would have swore you were at Croke Park or you had invited Bono into the cage it was that loud, I have never heard noise like it before - the Clan Wars fans showed their appreciation to Myia and all the hard work put in by Myia and her family and friends.
Promoter Paul McLaughlin was then invited into the cage to present the cheque to Myia and was given a fantastic reception by the fans also, who showed their appreciation to Paul for helping out with such a fantastic cause.
We spoke to Paul about it and his thoughts:
"I got to know about Myia and her cause through a friend and fellow coach Tony Carrick from Lucan MMA, it was at a time in my life where I was getting fed up with people bickering over issues that really weren't that big of a deal in comparison to what Myia and her family were going through. I don't have any kids but this cause really touched me and I thought I could try and do something to help out and hopefully give ideas for others to help out.
"When Myia was invited into the Clan Wars Octagon and the Clan Wars fans lifted the roof off I honestly didn't know if I was going to be able to go into the cage as it was very emotional, thank God I didn't have to speak lol. We also managed to raise over £1000 on the night with a collection which was fantastic. I would urge anyone else who would like to help to get in touch with myself, Tony Carrick or contact Myia's father John Kelly directly to help out, thanks again to everyone who donated at Clan Wars!"
We totally agree little Myia is an Angel and the atmosphere welcoming her was amazing - in fact the atmosphere the whole night was top class.
The Sense Night club was back to its full MMA capacity with fight fans travelling from all over Ireland for the show. Anyone who has been to Clan Wars at Sense will know its a special event for them, with it pretty much being the Clan Wars birth place. A lot of the original fans from the first shows still attend religiously at every event. The sound system, lighting and over allclub atmosphere coupled with MMA fights makes it a perfect night out.
All we have heard since is the rave reports on how much everyone enjoyed the show and cant wait for Clan Wars 12 at the Ulster Hall.
Headlining Clan Wars 11 was the international match up between Dec 'The Bandit' Larkin representing Ireland taking on Vittorio 'The Cannibal' Grant from BST Lanzarote, representing Spain. Vittorio has got some vicious Muay Thai stand up and I don't think 'The Bandit' wanted to test out his stand up against someone with savage striking skills as Vittorio.
Our guess was right as Vittorio opened aggressively with his stand up but Dec Larkin was waiting for the opening for the takedown, which he got. The two battled on the ground with Declan looking for the sub or the sweep and Vittorio looking to stand up. Declan saw the opening and attempted the arm bar which was tight but Vittorio, being the warrior he was he was, was able to power out of it and get back to his feet, landing strikes from the top. However, Declan had already at this point re-positioned him self onto Vittorio's leg to take the tap from the knee bar.
These two fighters showed a lot of appreciation to each other and Vittorio announced after a long stint of fighting that at Clan Wars 11 he was happy to hang up his gloves and thanked everyone in attendance, and also thanked MMA and Martial Arts for the direction in life it took him. He was also proud to end his career fighting someone as talented as Decky and wished him all the best. The crowd again gave Vittorio a standing ovation! Vittorio is now spending his time bringing up the new breed fighters from his gym which he will be bringing up through the Clan Wars shows just as he did - Vittorio is a legend and a real sportsman, we wish him all the best!
