UFC 148 Results; Silva Retains Middleweight Title
July-08-12News
The action finally came to a head this weekend when Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen did battle for a second time for the UFC middleweight title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
In fifteen bouts inside the Octagon, we've never seen Silva as enraged. This time it was personal for the Brazilian, and after a tough first round he blasted his way through the 'American Gangster' within two minutes of the second.
The beginning of the end saw Sonnen attempt a spinning back fist and tumble to the mat. Silva pounced with a knee and punches that sealed the deal and saw him retain his UFC crown with a tenth consecutive defence.
Elsewhere, Tito Ortiz's farewell didn't go as planned as he dropped a decision to Forrest Griffin, and Cung Le got his first Octagon win at forty.
Demian Maia's drops to 170lbs was a successful one, Chad Mendes blitzed Cody McKenzie and Mike Easton bested Ivan Menjivar in the opening PPV bout.
