Next Generation's 20 year old unbeaten prospect Chris Fishgold has signed an exclusive 18 month deal with the Cage Warriors promotion. Fishgold currently sits on a 7-0 pro record and will drop down to the featherweight division for his future bouts. Rated by many as the number one prospect in the UK, Fishgold's signing is a great sign of intent for both parties.
"I'm made up with signing for Cage Warriors. I've fought on a lot of different promotions but it's getting harder to find regular matchups. I'd like to thank promotions I've fought on in the past like OMMAC, but for me now it's just about working hard and having regular fights."
Fishgold has fought at a number of different weights but views joining Cage Warriors as a chance to fight regularly in his preferred featherweight class.
"A lot of the weight thing has been trying to find fights you know. I fought Andy Devent at 75kg; he's a big strong guy but I held my own. I think down at featherweight I'm going to be really strong."
After Steve O Keefe was forced to pull out of a proposed bout against Fishgold at OMMAC 14, the Liverpool native was left frustrated at being out of action for 10 months.
"I was gutted about that fight falling through. I had a long time to think about it and prepare my weight and to not get a fight at the end was hard. Steve was a good opponent for me, I saw myself finishing him and making a statement. Losing that chance to fight just makes me more determined to smash the next guy."
With Cage Warriors showcasing a number of events around the world across many platforms Fishgold is excited about fighting on a large stage.
"My teammate Danny Roberts fought on there recently and he's signed. After I heard that Cage Warriors had spoken to Paul Rimmer and TNA, my management, I just wanted to sign and get a fight right away. They felt like it would be good for me and I just want fights to get into the top ten rankings as soon as I can.
"I've always loved fighting in Liverpool but to fight for a big promotion in other places is exciting. I feel like it's my job to represent Liverpool and my gym in other places now. I've said it before, if your name's on the rankings list I'm coming for you."
Fishgold joins a competitive division with Conor Mcgregor and Jim Alers meeting for a title bout on September 1st. How does the prospect see himself matching up against those already in his division?
"I'm ready for whoever Paul (Rimmer) tells me to fight. I've been out a long time so I just want to get back to action and start climbing the rankings. If he wants me to fight for the title down the line then I'll do it. I'm training full time to be the best I can be. I'm fitter than I've ever been and I'm only getting better.
"I'd like to thank my coach Paul Rimmer at Next Generation gym, no limits strength and conditioning, TNA, MMA HQ and my sponsors Scramble. Thanks also to Graham Boylan at Cage Warriors for believing in me."
