It's been fairly common knowledge in UK MMA circles that the UFC were planning a return to Manchester at the tail-end of the year. However, there had been no official confirmation until Dana White gave it the nod following UFC 161 in Winnipeg this past weekend.

White confirmed the October event, expected to be the 26th, post-fight on Saturday night, and it finally gave fans the firm acknowledgement they needed.

The rumours were rife even before Michael Bisping told ESPN that he wanted a fight in Manchester in October, and that was back in April.

The next UK UFC event will be the second of the year for British fans, who have been used to just a single event on home shores since 2010. UFC On Fuel TV: Barao vs. McDonald took place in the capital in February, and set the stall for another show later in the year.

Manchester last played host to a UFC event in 2009, UFC 105, featuring Randy Couture vs. Brandon Vera in the main event. 16,693 fans flocked to the MEN Arena, and saw victories for the likes of Dan Hardy, Michael Bisping and Ross Pearson.

UFC 70 in 2007 was the first time they had ventured to the large North West city, again featuring Michael Bisping fresh off his Ultimate Fighter victory. It featured Gonzaga vs. Cro Cop and Arlovski vs. Werdum, and the seats were filled by 15,114 people.

With local favourite Bisping's popularity and success, there's no doubt it's a great city for UK UFC fans. As tends to be the case, new blood also comes through when a UK event is announced, so a couple of additions could be expected, although the bulging roster has been going much the other way recently.
