The Cage Warriors featherweight strap, which had previously been around Conor McGregor’s waist, now lies lonely and cold, with no champion to hold her. However, the attention seeking harlot has a queue of men looking to keep it warm during the long, cold nights. At the very front of the queue stand Jim Alers and Joni Salovaara.

On Saturday 13th April, the Cage Warriors circus rolls into Glasgow, bringing with it a featherweight title fight as well as a great supporting cast of established names, including local warriors Joanne Calderwood, James Doolan and Mark Connor, who looking to put on a show for Scottish fight fans.

Jim Alers (who has been blogging for Your MMA here) will no doubt have visualised holding that title belt many times. Not because he’s madly into pre-fight visualisation, but because he’s already been faced with the prospect of challenging for it twice now, and both times the opportunity faded away like a thief in the night. He has patiently beat whoever Cage Warriors put in front of him, with a submission over Mario Cesar back at CWFC Fight Night 7 in September being his last outing.

He will be popping the cherry of Cage Warriors virgin Joni Salovaara, who has only lost once in his last ten outings, most recently beating Olivier Pastor at Vision FC 5. Cage Warriors have a knack of putting together fantastic main events and Sherdog.com recognised this by making this fight one of their ten must-watch fights of April.

The co-main event will feature the notoriously hard to match Joanne Calderwood, taking on the always game Sally Krumdiack. World champion Thai boxer Calderwood has thrown herself into MMA training as hard as she throws herself into her knee strikes, which is pretty hard. As a result she’s amassed a 5-0 record as a pro. Maybe she needs to start winning by armbar to get the attention of the masses? Nonetheless, she’d be crazy take the experience of ‘Slick’ Krumdiack lightly.

Elsewhere on the card, former Shock ‘N’ Awe bantamweight champion James Pennington will take on Glasgow’s James Doolan in what will be the first Cage Warriors outing for both fighters. Yep, Doolan has never fought under the Cage Warriors banner despite many of his Dinky Ninja teammates having experience in the cage of Europe’s leading promotion.

Submission specialist Chris Scott hasn’t lost in five fights and will be locking horns with another good grappler, European #10 Mats Nilsson. The Swede was last seen action at The Zone FC 10 back in May 2012, where a loss to TUF 17’s Tor Troeng broke his own five fight winning streak.
